Yetis Make Incredible Run to Finish 2nd in Region Tournament
The Cleveland Community College Baseball team finished second in the Region 10 DII Tournament held in Morehead City, NC May 5-8.
The Yetis entered the tournament as the #3 seed from the West Division and were paired against the East Division #2 seed Pitt Community College to start the tournament held at Big Rock Stadium.
The team would drop game one to Pitt on Thursday by a score of 12-6 and move to the elimination bracket in the double elimination tournament. On Friday, the Yetis would defeat Bryant and Stratton 12-8 led by homeruns from Robert Moya, Mike Huber, and Darian Munoz. On Saturday, the team would win 11-7 over Wake Tech as Kyras Dawson would homer. Later on Saturday, the Yetis run ruled the #1 East Division seed Brunswick Community College 13-2 with homers from Moya and Huber. Janniel Berroa would go 5.1 innings in a strong pitching performance. On Championship Sunday, the Yetis would win the elimination bracket by defeating the defending Region 10 and South Atlantic District champions, Patrick & Henry CC by a score of 12-4. The Yetis had homers against P&H CC by Huber and Tyler Casciato to move to the Region 10 Championship Game. The Yetis would fall in the final 6-2 against Catawba Valley CC in their sixth game in four days. The Yetis finished the 2022 season with 31 wins.
"This was an incredible run for our program," said Head Coach Tyler Dawson. "Just making the tournament was a huge accomplishment for a second year program, but making it to the championship is unbelievable. These guys have worked hard all year and I'm proud for their success.
The Yetis finish the season with a 31-23 overall record including four Region 10 weekend series sweeps.
