Yetis Split With CVCC
The baseball team split their weekend series with Catawba Valley CC by winning game 3 on Sunday.
The Yetis dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 5-2 and 3-1. In the series finale, the Yetis won 8-7.
In game 1, Darian Munoz would double and drive in a run. Cole Curtis pitched the final 3 innings, giving up no runs and striking out 3 batters. In game 2, Parker Kanupp would go all 7 innings, giving up only two earned runs while striking out 8 Red Hawk batters. In game 3, Mike Huber and Robert Moya would both homer. With his 7th homer on the season, Moya now holds the single season record for home runs and is tied with Huber for career home runs. Clayton Lanser-Proctor would start game 3, going 4 innings and striking out 5. Graham Brown would come in to relieve, going 3 innings and striking out 5. Boone Cartee would retire the final two Red Hawk batters in the 9th inning to collect the save.
"This was a tough series and I felt like all three games could have gone either way," said Head Coach Tyler Dawson. "Catawba Valley has been a top team in the Region for many years and getting our first win against them was another positive step for our program."
The Yetis are back in action on Wednesday for a mid-week Region match-up at Gaston College. They then travel to Southwest Virginia CC for a weekend Region series.
