Yetis Sweep Region Series
The Yetis baseball team swept Southwest Virginia CC in a 3 game series held at Yetis Athletic Park this weekend.
CCC won 9-1 on Friday, and 14-5 and 9-0 on Saturday to win their first Region series and gain their first ever sweep. Following a mid-week win against Caldwell CC last Wednesday, the Yetis now have a 4 game winning streak, the longest in the history of the second year program.
In Game 1 on Friday, Mike Huber homered and Janniel Berroa had two doubles. Parker Kanupp would go 5 scoreless innings on the mound, striking out 9 batters as the winning pitcher. In Game 2 on Saturday, Kyras Dawson had four hits, including a double and 2 RBI's and scoring three runs. Ayden Sciandra had two hits and 4 RBI's. Graham Brown would pitch 2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out 4 batters. In the series finale, Berroa and Aiden Roberson had doubles and Caleb Adair tripled. Kyle Murphy would go the full 7 innings, pitching a shutout, giving up only 4 hits and one walk. Murphy posted 15 strikeouts, a new school record for the Yetis.
"It's always great to have a complete team effort, where your pitching, hitting and defense all come together," said Head Coach Tyler Dawson. "But we had a complete team effort in all three areas for the entire series this weekend."
The Yetis travel to Morristown, TN on Wednesday to take on Walters State who entered the 2022 season ranked #5 nationally in Division I. The Yetis are back home this weekend as they host a Region series against Guilford Tech on Saturday and Sunday.
