Yetis Split Opener with Bantams
The Yetis Baseball team opened 2022 on the road at USC Union.
The game, held in Jonesville, SC was also the season opener for the Bantams, a fellow Region 10 member playing at the Division I level. USC Union won game 1 5-3 with the Yetis coming back to win game 2 of the double header 13-3.
Avery Bridges opened on the mound for Cleveland in game 1. It was Bridges' first trip back to the mound in a regular season game following season ending surgery early last season. On an early season pitch limit, Bridges went 4 1/3 innings, giving up only 2 hits and one earned run. Davis Turner hit a 2 run home run in a game that was originally scheduled for seven innings. The game eventually went into 9th with Union taking the victory off of a walk off 2 run homer by Jonathan Overton.
Game 2 saw Graham Brown take the mound as the starter. Also coming off of season ending surgery in 2021, Brown would go 3 2/3 innings while striking out 3 Bantam batters. Kael Snethen hit a 2 run homer for the Yetis. Janniel Berroa, Kyras Dawson and Tyler Casciato all doubled in the double digit win. Matias Marchesini and Kyle Flynn gave up no runs in relief efforts for Cleveland.
The Yetis are back in action February 5 as they travel to USC Salkehatchie for a doubleheader.
