Hickory, NC - The Catawba Valley Red Hawks edged out the Cleveland CC Yetis in a nail-biting 8–7 victory under the lights on Wednesday night, as both teams put up impressive offensive numbers in a game that featured four home runs and multiple lead changes.
Catawba Valley got off to a hot start, scoring five runs in the first two innings. Isaiah McDowell opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first, and the Red Hawks exploded in the second with a passed ball scoring one before Mason Mozeley crushed a three-run homer to make it 5–0.
Cleveland clawed back in the fourth with a four-run rally that included back-to-back homers by Nick Morris and Cruise Arnold, followed by an RBI double from Owen Liberto and a single to bring him home. Trenton Doss added a solo homer in the fifth to tie the game 5–5.
The Red Hawks answered with power of their own—Drew Berenyi launched a two-run homer in the sixth and McDowell scored again in the seventh on a grounder and fielding error, stretching their lead to 8–5.
Cleveland made one last push in the ninth when Avery Russell blasted a two-run homer, cutting the deficit to one. But Catawba Valley's bullpen held on to seal the win.
