The Cleveland Community College Yetis split their recent stretch of games, falling to Gaston before bouncing back with a dominant showing and hard-fought series at GTCC.
Gaston 10, Cleveland 2
The Yetis battled early before Gaston used a big sixth inning to pull away.
Cleveland struck first in the fourth inning. After Cruise Arnold crossed the plate, Alex McKee and Walker Hartley each delivered RBI efforts to even the score at 2-2. Timothy Negron led the offense with two hits, including a double, while Arnold added two hits and a run scored. Evan Estes also crossed the plate for the Yetis.
On the mound, Drew Hayes was sharp in his start, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out five while allowing just two hits. Reese Guertin added two innings in relief before Gaston's offense capitalized in the later frames.
Cleveland 13, GTCC 1
The Yetis responded in a big way in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, erupting for 13 runs on 11 hits.
Cleveland broke the game open with a six-run second inning. Hartley led the charge with two hits and three RBI, while Tanner Britt also drove in three runs, highlighted by a triple to clear the bases in the fifth. Lawson Powell reached base three times, scoring twice and collecting two RBI, and Estes had a perfect day at the plate with two hits and three runs scored.
Timothy Negron added a double and an RBI, and Alex McKee contributed a hit and an RBI as the Yetis controlled the tempo from start to finish.
Charlie Collins earned the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing just two hits and one run while striking out five.
GTCC 4, Cleveland 3
Game two of the doubleheader came down to the final inning, with the Yetis narrowly falling despite a late push.
Britt provided a spark with a solo home run in the seventh. Cruise Arnold doubled and drove in a run, while Brooks Hubbard added an RBI single. Tyler Rosario reached base three times, including a double, and scored once.
Drew Yelton delivered a solid outing, going 5.2 innings with five strikeouts before GTCC rallied in the sixth to take the lead.
Cleveland 7, GTCC 2
The Yetis closed the weekend strong, pulling away late to secure a 7-2 victory.
After trading scoreless innings early, Cleveland broke through with steady production in the final frames. Hartley doubled and drove in a run, while Britt launched another home run to spark the offense. Arnold continued his productive weekend with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, and David Conner came through with an RBI single.
Estes reached base four times and scored once, while Rosario added a hit and later stole home in the ninth to cap the scoring.
On the mound, the Yetis pieced together a strong staff effort. Aaron Main earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Kohen Orr followed with two shutout innings, and the bullpen limited damage down the stretch to secure the victory.
Cleveland showcased resilience throughout the stretch, bouncing back with explosive offense and balanced pitching to finish the weekend with momentum.
