Yetis Show Offensive Firepower in Home Shootout and Road Battle
Cleveland Community College men's basketball faced two tough Region 10 challenges, falling in a pair of high-paced contests to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute at home and Gaston College on the road. Despite the setbacks, the Yetis showed plenty of offensive firepower and saw several players step into big roles on both ends of the floor.
Caldwell 112, Cleveland CC 101 – Nov. 12, Shelby, N.C.
The scoreboard stayed busy all night as Cleveland and Caldwell traded buckets in a fast-paced shootout that saw both teams top the 100-point mark. The Yetis led 44–37 at halftime, but a massive 75-point second half from Caldwell swung the game in the visitors' favor in a 112–101 decision.
Guard Miles Beard put on a scoring clinic, pouring in 38 points on 14-for-22 shooting, including a blistering 9-for-12 from three-point range. He was nearly unstoppable on the perimeter, carrying the scoring load and keeping the Yetis within striking distance down the stretch.
Cleveland's backcourt trio powered the offense:
-
Beard – 38 points, 4 rebounds, 9 threes
-
Jacob Adair – 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals
-
Kelan Flowers – 19 points, 3 threes, 5 assists, 4-for-4 at the line
Adair and Flowers were steady on both ends, combining for 38 points and 9 assists, helping the Yetis match Caldwell's offensive tempo for much of the night.
Off the bench, Tamareion Roundtree gave Cleveland a major boost in the paint with 14 points and 8 rebounds, attacking the glass and providing energy in the frontcourt. Josh Bullock added 4 boards, while Martiste Mills knocked down a three and chipped in 3 points and 3 rebounds.
As a team, the Yetis shot the ball extremely well from deep, finishing 16-for-29 from three (55.2%) and 48.6% from the field overall. Offensively, they did more than enough to win most nights; ultimately, Caldwell's size and efficiency made the difference. The visitors shot 59.4% from the field, earned a 43–32 edge on the boards, and converted 23 free throws to pull away late.
Gaston 83, Cleveland CC 70 – Nov. 15, at Ashbrook High School
Three days later, Cleveland hit the road for another Region 10 test, falling 83–70 to Gaston College in a physical matchup dominated by rebounding and second-chance points.
Kelan Flowers turned in a strong all-around performance, leading the Yetis with 18 points and a team-high 8 assists, while also grabbing 4 rebounds. He consistently created offense off the dribble and got to the line, going 6-for-7 on free throws.
In the backcourt, Miles Beard added 16 points with four more made threes, and Jacob Adair chipped in 6 points and 3 rebounds, giving the Yetis another solid perimeter trio.
Cleveland's frontcourt answered the challenge inside:
-
Cairo Morales – 10 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal
-
Caden Thomas – 10 points, 11 rebounds (double-double)
-
Tamareion Roundtree – 8 points, 9 rebounds off the bench
Thomas anchored the paint with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Roundtree once again provided a spark off the bench, nearly posting a double-double of his own. Their effort helped Cleveland finish with 37 team rebounds, but Gaston's relentless work on the glass proved decisive. The hosts pulled down 53 rebounds, including 22 offensive boards, which turned into key extra possessions.
Both teams finished with 17 assists, and Cleveland held Gaston to just 23.3% from three-point range (7-for-30), but the rebounding margin and second-chance opportunities tilted the game in Gaston's favor.
