Softball Season Wrap-Up
Softball capped off an impressive 2024 season with a bid to the Region 10 Tournament hosted at Louisburg College. The Yetis triumphed in the tournament opener, beating the second-seeded Catawba Valley Community College, before concluding their season with a loss to Bryant and Stratton, the eventual tournament runner-up. Throughout the season, notable milestones highlighted their journey, including a record-breaking tally of 25 victories against ranked opponents.
Sophomores Hayle Eubanks, Andrea Melton, and Kaylen Cales, integral members of the team, were honored on Sophomore Day, April 6. Their combined efforts over two remarkable seasons yielded an impressive total of 43 wins, etching their names in the annals of program history. To cap off the celebrations that day, the team had doubleheader victories against Brunswick Community College.
The squad garnered further recognition with Christian Beaver, Sayge Strange, and Kassandra "Kassie" Swink securing coveted spots on the 2nd Team All-Region roster. Additionally, Jaylen Ledbetter and Kaylen Cales earned well-deserved accolades on the Region 10 All-Tournament Team.
Notably, Christian Beaver's pitching prowess propelled the team, ranking 4th in the conference with an ERA of 2.66, while Sayge Strange closely followed at 6th with a 3.03 ERA. Beaver's dominance extended to strikeouts, clinching a top-five spot in the conference with an impressive total of 139 for the season.
On the offensive front, the team boasted a robust batting average of .281 and an impressive on-base percentage of .390, indicative of their formidable prowess at the plate. Kassie Swink's stellar performance stood out, landing her in the top 10 of the region with a batting average of .405 and clinching the conference's top spot in triples.
With a foundation of returning players and a good recruiting class, Coach Beaver and the Yetis stand poised for another great season next year.
